During the warmer months, it is easy to forget how cold it can become in winter.

Keeping rugged up with good quality, fashionable winter clothes is a terrific way to get through the coldest days and nights and to avoid catching a cold.

Big, thick jackets, boots and woollen jumpers are the staples of the winter fashion scene, and emerge time and again each year in slightly modified forms.

These comfortable items look terrific and can be matched with lots of outfits, but at the same time can be exorbitantly expensive.

To get excellent winter gear at great prices is achievable, it just requires a little forward thinking.

Every year at the end of winter, top clothing stores will have a winter clothes sale. These are normally advertised weeks in advance, so you will have plenty of time to find out about the sale and plan your shopping needs.

Sometimes top jacket makers (think Kathmandu, Northface, Columbia) will reduce their stock by as much as forty or fifty per cent.

If you are planning to go away on a ski trip, keep an eye out for clothing packages on sale. For example, you could pick up a package with a sleeping bag, torch, ski jacket and pants for far cheaper than if you bought each item individually.
